The Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S) in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated intern for its ‘People Engagement Programme’ (PEP) team. Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

TI’s 5-year Strategy sets out ambitious directions for the TI Movement. In particular, there is a strong emphasis on engaging more people than ever before in the fight against corruption. The main TI-S contribution to the Movement realising its ambitions in this area is the implementation of the PEP. The PEP aims to: increase public understanding of, support for and engagement in the fight against corruption, to assist victims and witnesses of corruption to articulate and find solutions to their grievances, and to improve social programmes and services as a result of citizen demand and engagement.

Main function 
● Researching, drafting and supporting the publication of human interest and success stories, case studies and global communications materials;
● Supporting the PEP team in providing technical assistance to TI Chapters and TI-S regional departments.

Starting date & duration
From 15 July 2012 until 31 December 2012, full time (40 hours/week), Monday to Friday.

Key tasks
● Contribute to the production of PEP communications and fundraising materials;
● Contribute to content development for TI online products (website, blog, maps, etc) on PEP;
● Contribute to the content development of the TI Intranet section on PEP;
● Draft “Human Interest Stories”, based on People Engagement initiatives in the TI Movement, and particularly of cases managed by TI’s Advocacy and Legal Advice Centres;
● Work closely with TI’s communications department in the editing and publication process;
● Assist in administration, research, documentation, record-keeping, workshop organisation and logistical tasks related to supporting the PEP team as required.

Knowledge, experience, interests and skills
Required
● University degree or ongoing studies in relevant fields (journalism or communications, preferably in an international/ development-related context) or relevant work experience;
● A strong interest in gathering facts and reporting on stories, with high intercultural awareness and sensitivity;
● Strong IT skills, especially standard computer applications such as MS Office;
● Excellent written and spoken English.

Desired
● Journalistic/writing experience;
● Interest in innovative use of Information and Communications Technologies/ social media in NGOs;
● Some experience in national or international organisations and/or familiarity with the work of non-profit advocacy organisations is an asset;
● Knowledge of French, Arabic, Spanish or Russian;
● Experience in writing about complex, politically and legally sensitive subjects for non-expert audiences is an asset; as is an interest for social media use in the professional context.
