Understanding Humanitarian Action

This summer school provides participants with an understanding of the main stakes and questions in Humanitarian Action (HA) and contributes to building one’s own critical thinking.
The first week introduces the main concepts of this type of aid – including elements to be considered (or not) for a definition of Humanitarian Action – and presents the humanitarian principles and framework in which interventions take place. As we look at the history, law and geopolitics of Humanitarian Action, we also analyse the causes of humanitarian crises and types of responses.

Le Collège Universitaire Henry Dunant organise des cours de formation de niveau universitaire, destinés aux acteurs non gouvernementaux et gouvernementaux sur les droits humains, en collaboration avec le Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies aux droits de l’homme et l’UNESCO.
Le programme de XXème l'Université d'été des droits de l'homme se focalisera sur l'approche des droits de l’homme dans les politiques publiques et le développement. A la veille des nouveaux objectifs du développement, la formation donne des outils pour mettre en place des politiques conçues d’après les normes internationales des droits de l'homme. L'accent sera mis sur le droit au développement, le droit à l'éducation et les droits culturels.
Le programme se compose de deux parties. La première partie est constituée d’une formation en ligne de 4 semaines. La seconde partie est présentielle et débouche sur un diplôme.
En 2014, la partie en ligne débutera le 1er juillet et se terminera le 31 juillet 2014 par un contrôle de connaissances. La session présentielle, d’une durée d’une semaine, aura lieu du 15 au 19 septembre 2014 lors de la réunion du Conseil des droits de l’homme.
Le test de connaissances qui clôturera cette période présentielle donnera droit au Diplôme en droits économiques, sociaux et culturels.

EIUC has developed two modules of three days each aiming at providing training to civilian staff in election observation missions at the first steps of their career (i.e. short term observers). Selected applicants will be allowed to become aware of the role, the tasks and the status of international observers, and will be given a theoretical and practical training on election observation and election observation missions functioning.

Plan is a global children's organisation that, for the past 75 years, has been taking action and standing up for child rights. Plan currently works in 71 countries (12 of which are in West Africa) with a rights based approach to help children and their families overcome poverty. The 'One Plan One Goal' global strategy 2012 – 2016 pays particular attention to tackling exclusion, and prioritizes support for vulnerable and marginalized groups including women and children with disabilities.
In 2012, the first ever Disability Inclusion Working Group was established by members of the Plan family, including Plan Ireland and Plan Finland, to promote greater and more effective inclusion of Persons with Disabilities across Plan’s work. Initial activities included raising awareness within the organisation, facilitating learning and cooperation, developing tools and resources, supporting advocacy and facilitating research on disability such as the ‘Outside the Circle’ research in West Africa. The position of Disability Programme Coordinator will enhance the degree to which Plan includes people with disabilities in programming to improve the quality of life of vulnerable children.

That is why they set out to garner the wealth of opportunities to improve the quality of teaching and learning for future generations of students.
iversity want to move beyond the existing teaching formats to enable wholly new forms of online teaching and learning. In order to develop open courses they call upon individual instructors, universities and knowledge-based companies to join us in this effort to democratize education.

Beca (!) para el master oficial organizado por el Instituto de Derechos Humanos “Bartolomé de las Casas” de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, se viene impartiendo desde el curso académico 2006/2007, aunque se puede establecer una vinculación con unos estudios que se han impartido ininterrumpidamente en la Universidad Carlos III desde 1993.

El título tiene una orientación investigadora, en tanto que esencialmente pretende formar egresados que estén en condiciones de continuar con éxito su formación en el doctorado. Desde un punto de vista general, se puede afirmar que los objetivos básicos del título se identifican con el desarrollo de la enseñanza de los derechos humanos, la consecución del aprendizaje de los derechos humanos, el desarrollo de la investigación sobre los derechos humanos, y la capacitación del alumno a la hora de participar de manera activa en los distintos foros, agencias e instituciones universitarias, de investigación, defensa, protección y garantía de los derechos humanos, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional.
El Máster tiene una orientación y enfoque académico e investigador. De acuerdo con lo anterior, persigue constituir la base necesaria que permite al alumno continuar posteriormente sus estudios de posgrado a través de la participación en el Doctorado, pudiendo alcanzar así el título que, de acuerdo con la legislación vigente, representa el nivel más elevado de la educación superior, acredita el más alto rango académico y faculta para la docencia y lainvestigación. En este sentido, el Máster incluye el estudio de las dimensiones básicas de los derechos humanos a lo que hay que añadir una especialización en los distintos ámbitos desde los que puede afrontar el fenómeno de los derechos.
De esta manera, se pretende formar y capacitar a los alumnos para desarrollar actividades docentes e investigadoras y lo que secundariamente también les puede permitir participar en las actividades de Organizaciones no Gubernamentales, Agencias nacionales e internacionales de defensa y promoción de los derechos humanos y Consultorías en materia de derechos humanos.

The Summer School organised by the Transitional Justice Institute (TJI) at the University of Ulster is a week-long residential course, consisting of a series of interactive lectures, workshops and roundtable discussions. It is aimed at both postgraduate students and practitioners working in the field of transitional justice and human rights.
The academic component of the summer school is also complemented by a social programme which provides the opportunity for participants to get to know a little about the local area. A number of social events such as: a murals tour in Belfast, film screenings and a Summer School dinner at Belfast Castle are included in the programme.

The European University Institute (EUI) is a unique international centre for doctorate and post-doctorate studies and research, situated in the Tuscan hills overlooking Florence.
Since its establishment 40 years ago by the six founding members of the then European Communities, the EUI has earned a reputation as a leading international academic institution with a European focus. The four departments – Economics, History and Civilization, Law, and Political and Social Sciences – host scholars from more than 60 countries, studying for the Institution’s doctorate or one-year masters in law or European economics.
The 2014 Summer School on Human Rights Law comprises a General Course on ‘21st Century Human Rights’ by Harold Hongju Koh (Professor of Law, Yale Law School) and a series of specialized courses on the topic of ‘Freedom of Religion, Secularism and Human Rights’ by leading scholars from universities all over the world. The Summer School will also include two distinguished lectures by Bruno Simma (Judge at the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal; former Judge at the International Court of Justice) and Joseph H.H.Weiler (President of the European University Institute).

International training programme 'Human Rights for Development' (HR4DEV)

HR4DEV is a joint initiative of two Flemish interuniversity partnerships: the Flemish Interuniversity Research Network and Development (LAW&DEV) and the Children's Rights Knowledge Centre (KeKi), in cooperation with the Institute of Development Policy and Management (IOB).
The 2014 edition of Human Rights for Development (HR4DEV) maps the potential and limits of human rights in development and development cooperation. The training programme consists of a general part (two weeks on human rights and development), and a thematic part (two weeks on children's rights). HR4DEV targets 'leaders of the future' in practice, policy and academia from the global South and North.
