The Master’s Degree Programme in International Human Rights Law at the Åbo Akademi University is designed to prepare its graduates for challenging human rights careers in international organizations, non-governmental organizations and public administration. It will also provide the requisite background for advanced human rights law research. Successful completion of this two-year full-time programme results in the award of a Master of Social Sciences (M. Soc. Sc.) degree.
Structure of the programme
The programme (120 credits) consists of the following modules: 
(a) compulsory human rights law courses (85 credits) including a research seminar and a master’s thesis in inter-national human rights law.
(b) optional courses (35 credits), which may include courses offered within the Turku Law School (a system for cooperation between the two universities in Turku/Åbo) as well as courses offered by Finnish, Nordic and international partner universities.

Admission
Participation is limited to 10 students. The programme is open to those holding a law degree or another bachelor’s degree with at least 45 ECTS credits in law or other relevant subject(s). Sufficient knowledge of English language is also required. Admission granted on basis of the application. The Institute for Human Rights
The programme is offered by the Institute of Human Rights Law and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Business and Economics at Åbo Akademi University. The Institute is an internationally renowned academic institute which specializes in advanced human rights research and provision of education. The Institute has experience in hosting a wide range of international courses for students, researchers and professionals. The Institute also offers doctoral training and actively participates in Nordic and other international human rights research networks. In its teaching, the Institute relies upon its own researchers as well as other renowned national and international experts.
