Advanced Course on the Human Right to Education

The NCHR Academy of Human Rights is pleased to announce the 2015 Advanced Course on the Human Right to Education. This five-day intensive course has an inter-disciplinary focus on right to primary and secondary education. It aims to equip participants with specialist-level knowledge, enable critical discussion and network building with practitioners and scholars from across the globe.

The topics covered include:
• Philosophy of education
• International legal obligations
• Economics and politics of the right to education
• Discrimination and privatization
• Education rights in different contexts
• Implementation and human rights education

The course is conducted in English, is highly participatory, and uses case studies extensively.

The course is part of the Global School on Socioeconomic Rights. Global School courses are hosted annually by institutions such as the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, the Åbo Akademi University, University of Stellenbosch Law Faculty, University of Los Andes, and Harvard University.

The course offers a limited number of placements.

Programme
The tentative Course programme includes a day-to-day description and a list of lecturers.

Recommended reading and detailed course description will be announced well in advance of the course.

Applicants
The course is designed for PhD students, scholars, practitioners (e.g., law, public health, human rights or development), policy-makers and advanced master’s students. The number of participants is restricted.

Course fees
Fees include tuition, materials, refreshments, lunches, course activities and a dinner. The course offers a limited number of fee waiver placements and full stipends.
Standard course fee: NOK 15 000. 
Fee waiver placement: NOK 7 500. Available to doctoral candidates, MA students and young researchers (within five years after obtained Ph.D. degree). These placements covers tuition, materials, refreshments, lunches, course activities and a dinner. 
Full stipends options. Available to applicants from Africa, Latin America, and Asia (South and South-East Asia). Stipend participants will additionally receive travel and accommodation reimbursements, and per diem. Transport to and from airports and costs for visa permits are excluded.
