Programmes and courses on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law

Besides its research and publication activities, the IGC is particularly active in the area of education through the regular organisation of the Post-Graduation Course on Human Rights, the Course on Peace Operations and Humanitarian Action, the Summer Course and the Autumn Conferences. The IGC offers education, technical support and consultancy, including opinions, studies, legislative drafting and independent external evaluation of projects and entities in the area of human rights and humanitarian law. The IGC´s partners and targets are public (ministries, schools, courts, etc.) and private entities (enterprises, associations, foundations, etc.), civilian and military entities, both national and foreign.
The IGC’ technical and teaching staff is composed of professors of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra, guest lecturers and professionals or experts with recognised scientific and professional merit in the teaching or research areas of the Institute.
The centre promotes the idea of working in partnership and, thus, privileges the establishment of cooperation protocols with similar national and foreign institutes, namely Portuguese-speaking, with other Universities, UN agencies and entities who work on the issues related to the scope of the IGC.
