Summer 2014 Legal Internship in Geneva and Tel Aviv
ORAM is the leading international non-profit organization dedicated to helping refugees who have been forced to flee their home countries due to persecution based on their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. An official partner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), ORAM works to carry out its worldwide mission on multiple fronts, from direct client assistance and global advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex refugees and asylum seekers, to logistical support and training for refugee protection professionals, adjudicators and other stakeholders worldwide.
ORAM is seeking highly qualified and dedicated interns to to assist with research and writing, publicity and outreach, development, and translation. Intern duties could include legal research and writing on critical issues for LGBTI refugee protection, research on conditions in refugees’ countries of origin and transit, and client intake. No compensation is available from ORAM, but we will work with law school funding or schools offering credit.
Requirements
All first and second year law students are encouraged to apply. This position requires excellent research and writing skills, as well as the ability to work independently. Students with interest or experience in human rights law and LGBTI law, or those who have worked directly with clients, are especially encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will be fluent in English. This is a full time summer position. Interns will be expected to work a minimum of 35 hours per week.
