Training seminar on Human Rights and the environment
21-23 November 2013, Monastery of San Nicolò, Venice Lido (Italy)
Deadline for application: 30 September 2013

The European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) is an interdisciplinary centre of excellence formed by 41 universities from all European Union Member States.

The EIUC is organising a seminar, with the patronage and collaboration of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the European Union (EU), which will analyse human rights from an environmental perspective, with a new multi-disciplinary approach that underpins the notion that the right to a healthy environment is just as basic as other rights.

The methodology of the seminar includes lectures, discussions, working groups and case studies. Issues about human rights and the environment will be analysed in the context of sustainable development by identifying links and challenges, which shall be faced to implement a rightsbased approach to the environmental protection. As well as consideration of international human rights law, there will also be an examination of the relationship of the law of armed conflict with the environment, and questions of transitional justice.
Admission requirements
The lectures are conceived for an audience of graduates and practitioners who want to address human rights and the environment from a multi-disciplinary approach. In particular the seminar is open to officials from national and international organisations, NGO experts, decision makers and policy makers wishing to better understand how to integrate human rights and environmental issues in their daily work. The course is moreover addressed to participants and alumni of former educational programmes organised under the EIUC umbrella.
In order to be eligible, applicants shall:
• Hold a degree in Human Rights-related disciplines (Law, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Philosophy, Anthropology) or in disciplines belonging to the sphere of Biological Sciences (Biology, Conservation Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Forestry Sciences) or similar;
• Have a good command of English as a foreign language.

All courses will be held in English. It is, therefore, essential that all participants understand and speak English fluently.

Fees
The enrolment fee amounts to €600 and includes:
• tuition fee
• lunches on class days
• reading materials
• accommodation in a single room in a hotel on the Lido for 4 nights (20, 21, 22, 23 November)

    The human rights commission, though under funded is work to engaged al aspect of human rights in the country.

    The ideal of the course will help to brighten the concept of human rights, meanly environmental rights, there are lots of concession working in this region they need to be monitor regularly.
