The International Justice (IJ) Program of Human Rights Watch (HRW) advises and operationalizes HRW’s activities on a range of issues relating to accountability in international criminal fora, devises strategies to obtain justice, and produces written materials to implement those strategies.

The IJ Program intern will primarily focus on monitoring international criminal law developments in targeted country situations and carrying out research on issues of international justice. Ideally, the intern would start in mid-June and commit a minimum of four months, although six months is preferable.

6th International Disability Law Summer School: The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities - Access to Justice and Political Participation

About the School

The purpose of this five-day International Disability Summer School is to equip participants with the insights and skills necessary to translate the generalities of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities into tangible reform for persons with disabilities.

The core focus is on Access to Justice and Political Participation.

The participants will include persons with disabilities, their families, civil society groups of persons with disabilities as well as advocates for disability law reform, lawyers, policy makers, policy analysts and others.

The faculty includes senior academics, practitioners, advocates and policy makers from around the world. Most of the speakers have been directly and actively engaged in drafting and implementing the Convention. Others are advocates for change and reform.

This is the 6th International Summer School on disability law & policy offered by the Centre for Disability Law & Policy. In 2013, the Summer School attracted over 100 participants from 39 different countries.

Confidence Crisis in Human Rights: Implications for the UK

This intensive course on the challenges faced by the international human rights regime is part of the 2014 Summer School at the Middlesex University London.

The objective of this course is to provide participants with an understanding of the legal basis underpinning the creation of human rights standards and organs through the prism of topics considered a priority on the international human rights agenda. By the end of the course participants will be able to analyse the impact of international and national politics on the structures and functions of human rights mechanisms, be able to critically evaluate the existing system, and identify current and potential strategies for effective functioning within it.

Its patrons include most EU member states and it is supported by the EU. ERA organises conferences and seminars around Europe, has an e-learning platform and publishes a legal journal ERA Forum.

Its Annual Conference on EU Migration Law will focus this year on the challenges related to individuals with Long-Term Resident (LTR) status.

The event will also provide participants with an update on recent European legislation as well as the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights in areas such as returns, family reunification, seasonal workers and intra-corporate transfers.
